For the second time this year, I welcome you back to school! I hope everyone was safe over the "Snow-cation." It was pretty, but I really didn't need another vacation. Before the break I sent home report cards. Please make sure you sign the signature card and return it in the gold envelope. If you received a survey, please complete that as well and return it in its respective envelope.I am so proud of my students and how much they have accomplished. Everyone's reading and AR levels are up and the months of November and December, every student achieved their goals and were part of the AR party. Because of the snow break, I have decreasd the student's reading goals to six for the month of January.
Parents, would you please keep a lookout at home for two books from my classroom that are missing. The first one is, Stanley's Wild Ride, by Linda Bailey, and the other is, The Mystery of the Flying Orange Pumpkin, by Steven Kellogg. They are both libray books and I allow the students to borrow them from the classroom library and neither one has been returned. I would really appreciate your help with this.
Today I sent home two field trip forms to be completed and returned. The first two field trips are in-house in February and again in May. We will be concentrating on Science. The first in February is on the Solar System and the second, in May, is on Life Cycles. They are taught by Debbie Lanier, affectionately known as "Nana Nature." I have had the pleasure of knowing her for quite some time and she taught at Compton Elementary when I was a parapro there. She now takes her program, Nature in a Nutshell, to various elementary schools and has a very hands-on approach to Science. We are looking forward to her coming and teaching our students. The other field trip is to the Fire Safety House in Marietta. Second graders now take fire safety and Cobb County provides us with a field trip to the Fire Safety house where students learn all about safety. We will take sack lunches that day or you can provide a sack lunch for your student. The date on that is February 16, from 10 - 1. This is not a parent chaperoned field trip.
