January has arrived and we are ready to get back to Kindergarten business after a nice break! We are beginning our 3rd Nine Weeks of School with lots to learn and do. Here we go!
*During our next couple of weeks, our Literacy instruction will include work with and review of the letters and sounds and sight words. We will continue to work with "word families" and practice making and reading new words. We will continue to work with "word parts" (syllables) throughout these nine weeks--blending the sounds as well as segmenting them.
*In Math, we will continue to work on those tricky "Fair Trades" between pennies and nickels and pennies and dimes. We will increase our Problem Solving Skills by drawing pictures to represent our answers to a word problem.
*Our Social Studies unit will include a study of Martin Luther King Jr. with the focus on his childhood in Atlanta.
*In Science, we will begin a new unit on "Matter". Our first investigations will include sorting objects into categories based upon what material they are made of.
*We have come to the time of year when the weather can turn snowy or icy with little or no warning. You may recall an Inclement Weather Form that you completed at the beginning of the school year. If any of the information has changed since then, please let me know and I will update your form for you.
*With our cold weather comes lots of extra clothing for our Kindergartners. Please make sure that your child's name is in as many articles of clothing as possible. It will help us tremendously as the children prepare for dismissal!
*Your January Book-It reading slip will be coming home this week. Let's have a great month of reading! It is not too late to turn in your December reading slip.
*Please remember to send in your January snack donation!
*Report Cards will come home on Friday, January 13.
*I have added a Reading Tip to our page!
*We will not be having a Rest Time for the remainder of the year so you do not need to return the rest towels!
*There will be no school on Monday, January 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
**Thanks, everyone!! Happy 2012!
