Moving Through September!

Hi Everyone,

*Our class is moving right along!  Our Literacy instruction continues to focus on the parts of a book as well as identifying our alphabet letters.  We will begin to discuss rhyming words as well as following two-step directions.  In Math, we are continuing to work on numbers and sets to 10 and the penny and nickel.  We are also working with ordinal numbers through 10.  The children are also enjoying exploring new math and literacy center activities.  Our Social Studies focus will be on the American Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance.  Our Smartboard will be used to help reinforce these concepts.  In Science, we will continue to focus on Animals and the ways they are similar and different.

*We will be using My Weekly Reader in our classroom this year.  This is the only classroom periodical with an edition created specifically for kindergartners.  It helps develop their reading and social skills and encourages them to participate in classroom activities.  Enjoy the "latest edition" with your child!

*Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Jones, has begun visiting our class for group lessons.  Her first lessons are about getting along with others and respecting individual differences.  We always enjoy her visits!

*Fall pictures will be taken on Friday, September 30.  Envelopes for ordering will be coming home soon.

*I have added a few "Pages" to the blog ~ our sight word list, "Mastering Math" information (also given out at Open House) and our "3,2,1" Kindergarten "scoring" information--a hard copy will be coming home as well.

Moving Into September

Hi Everyone!

September has arrived!  Here are a few things as we welcome our new month...

*We have begun to visit our Media Center!  Our children have enjoyed a story with our Media Specialist, Mrs. Ratliff, and are beginning to check out books!  Our book return day will be every Friday...happy reading!  :)

*We have settled into our daily routine and the children are working very hard.  Our Literacy instruction is focusing on identifying letters--their names and sounds.  Our Smartboard helped us match pictures with their beginning sounds.  The children so enjoyed this activity!  We are using our classmates names to help us begin to write our letters correctly.  Our Math instruction is focusing on our numbers 0-5.  We are doing lots of counting and finding the correct number to identify sets.  We also work with our calendar on a daily basis as part of our Math instruction...September will find new activities added to this important part of the day!
