Valentine's Day & Study Island

Valentine's Day is quickly approaching! So...I wanted to give you all a
heads-up on exchanging Valentines. I will have the kids make Valentine Bags to
collect their Valentines in so there is no need to make one at home. :)One less
stress right? Also, to make passing out the Valentines faster and less chaotic,
please do not put classmates' names on them. Have your child sign their name to
each one, but no names of classmates. If you've every seen kids pass out
Valentines it can get a little crazy like a zoo. This helps with that. We
will exchange Valentines on February 14th in the afternoon and will also have
some fun Valentine "educational" activities. Per Cobb County Policy we are not
supposed to have a party. However, if anyone wants to send in a treat let me
know. I can serve it at lunch during our "educational" activity. I can't
believe that January is pretty much over.

9 more weeks until Spring Break and 11 1/2 weeks until the CRCT. I'm not
counting or anything. :)

Make sure your child is getting on Study Island. They need 2 blue ribbons a
week. Make sure one of the Blue Ribbons is in reading since passing reading is
critical this year. I will check the Blue Ribbons Friday morning.

Mock CRCT

Dear Parents,

On Thursday and Friday (1/19 and 1/20) morning this week, the students in third grade will be taking a Reading Mock CRCT. This will be the same test the students took at the beginning of the year and was discussed with you during conferences. We are hoping to see growth and to use this assessment as an indicator of how they may perform on the real CRCT. Third grade is a critical year for the Reading portion of the test. In order to move on to fourth grade, students must pass the Reading test. Encourage your child to use the UNRAVEL strategy as they take the test. For extra practice, your child can log into Study Island. Reading nightly with your child also increases reading comprehension. Thank you for all of your support! I hope you have a wonderful week!
