We are back on a normal homework routine this week. A new reading packet was sent home on Friday and is due this Friday. I also stapled their spelling list in their agendas. Our copy machine is having issues, so there is no spelling page to go along with the list. Please make sure your child studies. On another note...the December specials schedule will be written down by your child in their agenda's from this point. I am trying to get them to be more independent in knowing what is coming up. It is written for the week on the board.
I would also like to say how proud I am of the progress the kids are making on their multiplication facts. I just gave a 0-10 timed test, with 100 problems, that they only had 7 minutes to complete. I compared each student's score to what they scored last 9 weeks and saw great improvement. Those tests are coming home this week for you to see. Your child should be scoring at least 75% or higher to be considered a "3" for meeting standards. Please make sure you do flashcards at least 5-10 minutes a night. It might not seem like it makes a difference but it does. Next quarter we are moving on to long division and division with remainders and knowing their facts is the key to being successful on that standard. The #1 thing 4th & 5th grade teachers say that keep students from being able to master concepts in math is knowing their multiplication facts. Having taught both of those grades, I can tell you that not knowing them QUICKLY will hold them back. Study, study, study.......
