Below you'll find some current academic areas of focus and what we'll be studying in the next few weeks:
Language Arts:
- sentence structure and introduction to word parts (nouns, verbs)
- capitalization and punctuation
- blends (ex. frog, stop), and digraphs (ex. th, ch, wh, sh)
- predicting, characters, setting, and main idea of stories (When your child reads to you or you read to your child, be sure to discuss the characters, setting, events/details in sequence in the book. Encourage your child to retell the book with few, if any, prompts)
- handwriting: printing legibly with correct spacing between words and forming letters correctly
- writing process: developing beginning, middle, and ending of a story with details throughout and a clear focus of the story
Math:
- addition and subtraction facts to 12
- word problems to 12
- key math vocabulary words such as altogether, combining sets, sum, total, plus, both, in all, are left/were left, fewer, difference, take away, remaining, how many more
- place value to 99
- math journals
- measurement of time: days, weeks, months
- time to the hour
Science:
- magnets: exploring objects that are magnetic and non-magnetic
Social Studies:
- landforms: mountains, plains, deserts, coasts, plateaus, and valleys
- Thomas Jefferson: studying his contributions
Health: nutritious food and the food pyramid
General Information:
-The Frey After School Program (ASP) now has an Online Payment Availability.Online prepayment is now available for parents to pay their student's daily fees and registration fee! The parents may access this availability and/or register at www.mealpayplus.com. Please contact Frey's After School Program if you have any questions.
-Save-It-Forward: In conjunction with Rachel's Challenge we will be participating in a program called Save It Forward. We are collecting canned goods and boxes of food through the 100th day of school (Jan. 27th) for students and their families in Cobb County. Each classroom has been challenged to collect 100 canned goods and/or boxes of food. Please help our class reach our goal!
- Original Art Works magnets: Please send in either your payment for the magnet or return the magnet if you aren't interested in purchasing one.
- Our team is collecting soap to help replenish our school supplies. If you could send some in we would really appreciate it!!
