Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the difference between the Foundation and the PTSA?
The PTSA is an organization that supports the day-to-day educational and social programs of the school. There are very specific guidelines and restrictions pertaining to fundraising and expenses. The Foundation has the ability to provide programs and resources above and beyond those provided by the Cobb County School District and PTSA. The tax-exempt status of the Foundation allows us to receive employee-matching funds and to apply for educational grant monies.
Do other schools in our area have foundations?
Yes. Many of the schools in Cobb County have very active foundations. They have been able to fund foreign language instructors, drama classes, science lab equipment, sound equipment, computer equipment and much more. You can check out other foundations by visiting www.cobbk12.org and looking at various elementary schools websites. Most school foundations have a listing or tab on the school home page.
Does this mean I am going to be asked to volunteer more?
A foundation typically only needs a small number of volunteers. Unlike PTSA, a foundation sponsors only a few, limited events.
Does this mean we are going to be asked to give more money?
The Foundation plans to only sponsor a few fundraisers each year. These events will be carefully planned out with the Frey administration to insure that each event is given a separate time frame on the school calendar and does not overlap with, or fall closely to, additional fundraising events at the school. It is our goal to make sure that all parents see the value in the foundation and understand how it enables them to invest in their child’s education
