Platoon Adoption Information
Frey Parents,
Our Frey Family has grown again! Our school has adopted 1st Lt Cameron West and his entire platoon! Lieutenant West is a former Frey student; he was actually here the very first year that Frey opened! There are 40 soldiers in his platoon (they have named themselves “The 40 Hard Chargers!”) and are currently on deployment in Afghanistan. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to show support to a small group of the many soldiers that serve our country while also teaching our students the importance of citizenship and community involvement.
There are two ways we are asking for your help. First we will be collecting items that will be sent to our “extended family” members. Items may be sent in any time during the month of October. We are asking each grade level to be responsible for collecting certain items; teachers will package the items and send them along with cards, pictures, and letters from their students. All donations are due by Friday, October 29th.
Grade level items are listed below and a more specific list of suggested items can be found on the back of this page (these are items that are known to be acceptable items for sending to the soldiers).
*Please purchase individual or snack size food items or those that are individually wrapped...all items must be able to be split and packed in packs.
Kindergarten: candy (no chocolate or items that may melt), mints and gum
First Grade: powder drink mixes (to be added to water bottles) and snack size nuts, dried fruit, beef jerky, and granola (please no chocolate)
Second Grade: Toiletries (no mouthwash), baby wipes
Third Grade: card and travel games
Fourth Grade: magazines and stationery
Fifth Grade: Movie DVD’s (new or used) and socks (black, green, or white boot height)
In addition to collecting items, we will also have a Penny War so that we can pay for shipping costs and to purchase any additional items to be sent to our soldiers. The Penny War will take place during Red Ribbon Week (more information to follow); Kindergarten and First Grade will compete against each other, Second and Third will battle it out, and Fourth and Fifth will be opponents. Remember you are trying to have the most pennies…so bring in your pennies for your grade level jar! The war part comes in when you “attack” your competitors by adding silver coins to their jars! By adding silver coins, the total number of pennies is diminished by the amount of silver added to the jar! (pennies add up and silver subtracts from your total)
Thank you in advance for your donations of support for these soldiers~

All food items must be single serving or individually wrapped; this is important so that the soldiers can pack items into their backpacks. Personal care items should be travel size for the same reason.
If you can stuff it in your pocket and it’s not going to spoil or melt during the summer season, it’s a good thing to send!
