Mastering Math
Mastering Math is a Kindergarten-5th grade program at Frey. Our role in Kindergarten is to prepare students for mastering numeral writing in a timed test format. The goal for the children will be to write as many numbers as they can in one minute on the math template. This will prepare them for Mastering Math time tests in first grade with addition.
First grade has found that children often can’t write the numbers quick enough to be successful with their timed tests in addition. We are practicing in our class and encourage you to practice at home. Please keep in mind, the numbers must be in the correct order (for example 19 must be a 1 and a 9 and not written as 91). Also, all numbers must be made with correct directionality and not written backwards.
We are including an example page and a blank template for you to use at home. Please feel free to write numbers from 0-99 in the boxes and have your child take a one minute timed test for practice. Teacher blogs will also have a link for printing additional template copies. It is not necessary to send the timed tests back to school.
