Reading and Writing Lessons
Modeled writing lesson: We are continuing our Friend of the Day. At this time, as we're learning about our friends, we're practicing our writing concepts, sounds, sight words by creating each child’s mini poster. This has been a favorite of the children!!! Also with writing, we have been labeling our stories/pictures with color words, beginning sounds, and simple sentences
Letter T this week and L next week
Big Book Reading: Huggles Breakfast and Shopping
Big Book Lesson: Understanding story elements (characters, setting, problem/resolution), locating a letter, word, & sentence, retelling a story in sequence, and fiction vs nonfiction stories.
Independent Activities: One group of friends is working on the letter/sound practice and weekly sight words. Another group of friends is working on sight words, spelling 3 letter words (consonant vowel consonant) and writing sentences using our sight words and developmental spelling.
Reading Groups: As we grow towards on-task, independent work manners, we look forward to beginning our reading groups. Our reading groups use level readers to teach decoding skills and comprehension understanding.

* As the weather cools and the children begin to wear their jackets to school. Please write their name in their jackets. We already have a left over Navy, GAP Zipper Jacket. Also, please write your child’s name on their water bottles.
*As you have noticed, the children complete many individual “take home” books. Please keep these books and reread for reinforcement at home. It is wonderful practice for the children and it will truly make the difference!!! For additional practice, have your child draw a picture and label with their developmental spelling or write simple sentences. (This would also be good for handwriting practice!) Enjoy!!!!!
