Each year the Governor's Office recognizes schools throughout the state for performance and improvements in academic achievements. This year it was announced that Frey has been awarded the Bronze Star for academic achievements. We are very proud and honored to have been named among the top performing schools in the District and the State.

Reading and Writing Lessons:
Literacy Centers:Valentine Descriptive Words, Valentine Poems, Short and Long Vowel Practice (“Two Vowels Together” Rule and “Quiet Magic E” Rule, “oo Rule, “ou” Rule) and Syllables with Valentine Words
Literacy Daily Review: Digraphs and Endings: -sh, -ch, -th, -wh -ing, and “Aa” Controlled Vowels: ar, er, ir, or and ur
Big Book Lessons: Understanding story elements (characters, setting, problem/resolution), making text to text connections with stories, retelling a story in sequence with details, and fiction vs nonfiction stories
Independent Writing: Creating a fiction or formative simple story using sight words, descriptive words, phonetic spelling, spacing, and punctuation (5 sentences). We are also working on using more lower case letters in our writing as well as working on neatness.
Reading Groups: Our reading groups use level readers to teach decoding strategies and comprehension understanding. Our focus now is also on retelling events in order and using descriptive language.
