Honoring 9/11
I sent home today a pink order form with an envelope attached. This is a wonderful opportunity to purchase a T-shirt for your child honoring the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. These shirts are to be worn to school on Friday, September 9. We will also wear these shirts when Lt. Cameron West (a former Frey student) comes to visit our school. Last year, our school rallied together to send items to Lt. Cameron West and his Marine Platoon in Afghanistan. This fall, he will be coming to Frey to thank parents, students, and staff for our support. You will be informed as soon as there is a confirmed date for Lt. West’s arrival.
The T-shirt form and payment have to be returned by THIS Thursday, September 1. This will be the only opportunity to get these shirts. Please complete your order today and return it to your child’s teacher no later than Thursday, September 1. Thank you to all Frey parents for your support.
Go FREY!
School is well under way and the students have been adjusting to the daily schedule and routine of first grade. It has been a joy to get to know your child and I look forward to a successful year together. Below are just a few things that we are covering in class over the next several weeks:
- Math - To build a solid foundation for addition and subtraction the class is working on place value up to 30. It is important for all students to have a strong number sense.
- Writing - The students are learning about the writing process by developing a topic with a beginning, middle, and end. This week the focus has been on deciding on a topic and how to develop it. We are also reviewing correct sentence structure.
- Reading -The class is enjoying books from different authors. We discuss the characters, setting, and the main idea of the stories.
- Science - The class has been learning about being a scientist. The students were surprised to learn that we are all scientists. We have talked about the definition of weather and tools that are associated with weather. Next week, we will keep a graph on the weather and analyze the data.
